Baltimore-based Mona Hajj brings a truly global aesthetic to her interiors. Born in West Africa, raised in Lebanon and educated in Europe and the United States, she established her firm in 1990.

“I am first and foremost inspired by the beauty I have found experiencing different cultures throughout my life—the East’s limitless, sensible approach to creation and the West’s strong, individual, classic approach.” Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, English architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and interior designer Alberto Pinto are three individuals whose work displays an understanding of “scale, space and light.” Currently overseeing projects in Beirut, San Francisco and Maryland, Hajj says she knows she has succeeded when her clients tell her their home looks or feels like them. “I have my own aesthetic—that’s why my clients come to me—but the finished interiors have to reflect who they are and how they want to live.”
