Juxtaposing the historic and the contemporary against an autumnal backdrop of mossy forest-green, a recent installation at the flagship Paris showroom of Christian Liaigre places the renowned French designer’s latest collection in conversation with a selection of antiques, expertly curated by the Saint-Germain-des-Prés-based antiquities dealer and interior designer Florence Lopez.

From a pair of spectacularly mod 1960s rattan armchairs by Joe Colombo to a French Art Deco carpet and a geometric glass chandelier from early-20th-century Vienna, Lopez’s diverse design treasures and objets d’art are a pleasing addition to Liaigre’s signature contemporary-classic style.

Friends for 30 years, Lopez and Liaigre joined forces to create a space that would spotlight the rare antiques and highlight their unique charms while revealing the versatility of the luxurious yet understated designs for which the Liaigre brand is known. The resulting harmony showcases the timeless elegance that comes from combining the storied with the more modern.

“We wanted the contrast between the pieces to create a beautiful and intelligent interior,” says Liaigre, “one which takes the eye to the individual objects as well as the setting.”
