While Manchester, England, may be known for its sports clubs, a new arts complex is set to turn the city into a cultural hub. Home is a center for contemporary art, theater, and film located in the heart of the city and intended to be a catalyst for artistic projects as well as a venue for large-scale events. Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo designed the nearly $40 million structure, which spans just under 25,000 square feet and includes two theaters, five cinema screens, a flexible gallery space, three dining areas, and a roof terrace.

The iridescent glass façade of the triangle-shaped building includes sporadically placed fins, adding texture to the otherwise sleek exterior. Inside, the layout was designed to serve as an urban living room, with spaces for socializing, creating, and collaborating. A central stairwell caged in wood connects the three stories and is integrated into the design of the bar on each floor.

Located on the ground floor, the main theater accommodates 500 patrons and includes three levels of colorful seats. A smaller black-box-style theater on the second floor seats 150. Both venues will host a variety of programming, with a special focus on commissioned works. The third floor houses five movie theaters, ranging from 40 to 250 seats.
