Qatar Museums has launched an international search for an architect to design a nearly one-million-square-foot exhibition space called the Art Mill. Located on the Doha waterfront, the complex will inhabit the buildings currently occupied by the Qatar Flour Mills and incorporate some of the existing architectural features into its design.

Qatar envisions an exhibition venue with additional space for classrooms, conservation facilities, and art storage. A large outdoor area would accommodate public activities. The Art Mill is the latest in Qatar’s sequence of 21st-century art museums, which include the I. M. Pei–designed Museum of Islamic Art and Jean Nouvel’s forthcoming National Museum of Qatar.
