Whether he’s creating a villa in Dubai, a pool house in Jordan or an apartment in Paris, Chakib Richani brings a pared-down approach to design, along with an appreciation for “monolithic volumes, majestic proportions, poised symmetry and rich materials detailed to refinement,” he says.

“I abstract classical architecture to its essence. The viewer is not impressed by the subdued monolithic solid so much as the void that it contains.” The Venezuelan-born architect and designer, who opened his firm in 1992 after graduating from the American University of Beirut, says he looks for projects in which he can design the structure and interiors as well as the furniture and accessories to produce what he calls “a harmonious entity.” His serenely minimal spaces allow one to “forget one’s ego,” he observes. Limited editions of his furniture, lighting and accessories can be found at his showroom in Beirut.
