“I create interesting backgrounds to showcase the client’s collections, be they art, treasures from travel or antiques.” Bowman—who trained as an architect in San Francisco and later became a restaurateur, gallery owner and furniture designer—has lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with his family since 1981. His discerning eye for craftsmanship informs all of his designs. “My style hasn’t changed much over time,” he says, “but the quality of materials used has gone from just looking good to being good.” His gallery, Banderas Bay Trading Company, carries Mexican folk art, antiques, furniture and pottery. He displays larger pieces, including metal and wood furniture and light fixtures, in his showroom, The Annex.
