A design-savvy mind is a terrible thing to waste. That philosophy is the foundation of Print All Over Me, a pioneering year-old website that allows people to customize an array of fashions and home accessories with their own patterns. "There’s so much creative energy and not enough applications for it," says Jesse Finkelstein, who launched the New York–based venture with his sister, Meredith. "Our goal is for anyone to design and produce seamlessly."

The process is as streamlined as it is smart. Five times a year Print All Over Me (PAOM) introduces a variety of standard pieces, from sundresses to pillowcases. Users select from these options, choose a fabric, and upload their motif. They can then purchase their creation and also sell it on the site, receiving 20 percent of the profits while adding to the company’s expanding range of original designs. Aesthetes have been quick to embrace the platform. "We’re at more than 30,000 uploads a month," Meredith says. The online design magazine Sight Unseen unveiled its first in a series of collaborations with PAOM last spring, and pop star Katy Perry wore a PAOM bomber jacket in her music video for "This Is How We Do."

Fast-tracking PAOM’s expansion is its vertically integrated business model. (Well-crafted and affordably priced, each piece is made to order at the company’s own facilities.) The Finkelsteins plan to broaden their offerings, with lampshades, slipcovers, and seating in the works. Says Jesse, "It’s all about letting people create beautiful things."
