We’re pleased to unveil the winner of our Before + After Reader Closet showcase. The top project was selected based on, in equal measures, the creativity of the design, room transformation, overall aesthetic, and public vote. After reviewing the amazing group of finalists, our editors chose the Toronto project by Albert Limshue of Powell & Bonnell for its sophisticated transformation and luxe design.

The clients had called on the firm to renovate the main floor of their 10,000-square-foot home a few years earlier, and after their children went off to college, the couple was ready to update the upper level. His-and-hers en-suite master bathrooms with individual dressing areas and a packing room were added during the renovation. For the husband’s dressing room, Limshue said he wanted to create a feeling of “tailored masculinity” and looked to luxury boutiques for inspiration. “Having worked with the clients before, they trusted our vision,” says the designer. “Beyond touring the stores that inspired them, they left it up to us.”

Particular attention was paid to surfaces and materials. Dark gray millwork complements the polished-nickel-and-glass rack systems, while mirrors and LED lighting were used to give the illusion of additional space. Limshue chose rich walnut for the island, bench, and floors to balance the lighter hues and added an antique repoussé mirror and faceted gold lamp to contrast with the sleek surfaces and straight lines throughout the room. The result is a dressing room that’s equal parts style and storage.
