Courtesy of a huge Currys PC World Black Friday event, you can currently get a Google Nest Mini and a Kasa smart plug for £40 . We like to think of this as a sort of smart home starter kit combo, for those who are a bit baffled by the vast array of smart products on offer.

To clarify, the Google Nest Mini is just a rebranded Google Home Mini, with no additional features to speak of. But that’s okay: we gave the Home Mini four stars in our review , applauding the design and price but questioning the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

With the Google Assistant built-in, the Nest Mini can play music, but it can also read you weather/traffic/news reports, answer any burning questions you might have and control all manner of smart devices.

This includes the Kasa smart plug, a discreet wall-socket attachment that you can control from either the accompanying Kasa app or – shock, horror – a connected Google Nest Mini. At last, you have the option to turn on your home appliances simply by yelling the magic words, or to set schedules on indoor lighting so you never return to a dark house after work.

Normally, the Nest Mini would set you back £50, and the Kasa smart plug around £25 for a single device (on Amazon). The Nest Mini is actually on offer as an individual unit for £30 at Currys PC World and elsewhere; it says plenty about the quality of this offer that, even if you purchased both items separately now with the Nest Mini discount applied, you’d still be losing out on £15.

We’re not 100% certain how long this deal will last, so if you’re interested, we strongly urge you to get a move on.
