The City of Glass, nicknamed for its signature architectural aesthetic, will soon be home to yet another skyscraper: 1500 West Georgia, which will take its place among the sea of high-rises in Vancouver’s West End. The Beijing-based architect and AD Innovator Ole Scheeren has released his designs for the new structure, a 50-story residential tower featuring apartment blocks cantilevered over the city streets.

One of the building’s four façades is free of the Jenga-like protrusions, creating a deceptively flat view of the otherwise intricately angled structure. With its bundled-tube design and horizontal volumes, the tower will have multiple rooftop terraces.

The ground level of the building will house retail shops and a café, and an existing water cascade designed by the Canadian firm Rhone and Iredale will be integrated into a new design for the large public plaza. On the part of sustainability, Scheeren’s firm intends to earn a LEED Platinum rating, using renewable energy to power the public areas.
