Starting your own creative business can be both incredibly exciting and completely overwhelming. How do you hire people? How do you design a website? How do you write a marketing plan? British architect Zaha Hadid and fashion designer Anya Hindmarch are two business owners who’ve done it all, becoming huge successes in their respective fields. Any fledgling start-up would love advice from these industry veterans, and the new Creative Entrepreneurs movement, which launched this week in the UK, has asked them, along with music and TV producer Jamal Edwards and creative work space pioneer Rohan Silva, to be their expert guides.

“It’s very difficult to get anywhere without the support of those who have the knowledge and understanding to help you take the next step,” says Zadid. “Great things come from the inventiveness and abilities of those who are creative working with the support of an experienced team who know about running a successful business—Creative Entrepreneurs offers just that, to get you started at the very beginning.”

Each of the Creative Entrepreneurs ambassadors shares their career journeys— “what they did right and wrong, their lucky breaks, their mentors”—on the website. There’s also a rich, curated collection of business resources, such as links to business plan templates, job sites, and reviews of coworking spaces, and industry news, with feature stories that delve deep on topics like “creatives are not just airy dreamers.”

According to the website, “Britain’s creative industries are by far its fastest-growing economic sector, three times faster than any other,” and the initiative, which received initial seed funding from Arts Council England, has garnered support from Prime Minister David Cameron and Ed Vaizey, the Minister of State for Culture and the digital Economy. For many small businesses looking to grow, this new initiative couldn’t have come at a better time.
