London’s Victoria and Albert Museum has unveiled its 2015 summer pavilion in the John Madejski Garden. The temporary structure was designed for the V&A and the London Design Festival by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo and celebrates the Year of Mexico in the United Kingdom. Titled You Know, You Cannot See Yourself So Well as by Reflection, the installation consists of a system of mirrored platforms that can be moved and arranged to accommodate different events.

Escobedo was inspired by the Aztec city of Tenochtitlán, which was located on an island in Lake Texcoco, and the grid of Mexico City. The contrast between the pavilion and the gardens speaks to the many multicultural influences in modern-day Mexico, while the flexibility of the structure reflects the constant change occurring in cities physically, socially, and culturally. The installation will be on display throughout the summer and during the London Design Festival in early September.

Through October 3 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; vam.ac.uk
