Name: Crystal Carlisle , husband, three sons, and one fur daughter (dog) Location: Greensboro, North Carolina Type of home: House Size: 2700 square feet Years lived in: 2 years, owned

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: Our home is a place where everyone is welcome. With three boys and a host of neighborhood kids, our door is literally always open. We love to entertain and strive to create an environment where everyone feels safe and happy. We host impromptu neighborhood BBQs, outdoor movie nights, and game/card nights as often as possible! We moved from Tampa to Greensboro two years ago without a friend in sight so we had to get busy inviting people in and building our community.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Cheerful, whimsical, colorful, and fun.

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room by far is the kitchen/sunroom; it’s what sold me on the house. I came alone to North Carolina to house search while Jason and our boys stayed in Florida. After seeing almost 30 houses in seven days I decided that we would buy a camper to live in for the summer while we continued searching.

The day before I flew home our realtor showed me this house. I could imagine our boys sitting around this bar with their friends as teenagers; I knew immediately this was the house for us!

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I’m an avid thrifter, almost everything in our home was purchased secondhand. My favorite recently thrifted finds are the vintage cantilever chairs in our dining room, found for $3 each at our local Habit Restore and the large dining room table I purchased at an estate sale on our street which was handmade by an elderly neighbor.

Any advice for creating a home you love? I believe a home should be a reflection of the person/people who live in it and their lifestyle(s). We are a loud, fun-loving crew and I try to express that in my design choices.

If your home is a retreat, a place where you find peace and rest after a long work week, I would encourage you to decorate with colors and items that invoke a sense of calm. Our homes should be extremely personal, the one place we can be fully ourselves, an extension of us.
